There are some days when getting dressed is rather tiresome and I cannot be bothered to dress up as I usually do. This is what I would deem a "lazy day" outfit. Sweater, skirt, tights, shoes, and I'm good to go. I had to add the red tights for a pop of colour for an otherwise darker outfit. I also just realized that the red tights also match my cherry necklace. This necklace was made custom for me by a friend of my mom's. She's an incredible jewelry maker, and my mom and I have had lots of our jewelry made by her. This piece really doesn't do justice to her designs as this was a simple little thing that I really wanted, and she happened to construct it for me. I'm definitely planning a post featuring her designs.

Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Mines filled with homework, LSAT studying, and some much needed sleep. I now return to watching an interview with Mark Zuckerberg because while I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook, he's a genius.

I woke up on Monday miserable for two reasons: 1) it was Monday and 2)it was raining. Now, I love rain, but usually only during the summer when it provides a nice cool down in between hot days. But rain during the winter is horrible. I hate having to walk to class with my puffy coat, boots, bags AND umbrella. So you can all imagine that at first I didn't even contemplate taking photos, although eventually I succumbed to the idea, and discovered that outfit photos during rainy days turn out quite well.

I absolutely love the colour of this skirt (and the shape). I think orange is one of my favourite colours. One of my first cell phones was orange and when it broke it was incredibly sad to part with it, I'm pretty sure I shed a tear. Anyways, this outfit is my continuation of "if only I was Nancy Drew and solved mysteries".

When I first started blogging I remember writing a post discussing my inability to mix patterns. Well, 3 years later, I stand before you going crazy with pattern mixing. Pattern mixing definitely adds a quirky spark to an outfit. My favourite part about this outfit is the blouse and top mixed together. I was gifted this blouse a few years ago, and I hadn't worn it in ages, but I felt that wearing a completely sheer top to school wouldn't be the best idea, so I paired it with this vintage sleeveless shirt. The combination makes me think of fluffy snow and icicles hanging off of rooftops. Pretty imagery.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm slowly making my way through my piles of homework, but I can't complain because reading Dangerous Liaisons is time well spent.

I've spent the past week worrying about my future, even attending seminars to get ideas about what to do. I rather think that I've been trying to convince myself that what I want to do with my future is really the right decision for me. There's so much out there, and I've always felt that I can go terribly wrong, but today I feel like it's best to just go with my gut. Anyways, that wasn't fashion related, but I felt like I'd share. I'm sure that many of my readers are also students and can relate to my "what to do with my life?" problem.

In outfit news, I've recently been wearing a lot of my shirts buttoned up all the way. I don't really know why, but this sort of puts me back into my days of reading Nancy Drew and looking at illustrations of her with her blouse buttoned up all the way, wearing a skirt or a pair of slacks when she set out sleuthing. Plus there's a distinct preppy feel that I absolutely adore.

Not only is this my 400th post, but this is also the post picturing the first real snowfall we had in Toronto this winter. Now, I know I was lusting for snow all of December, but now that the holidays are over and I'm back to countless hours of studying each day, I really would prefer if my days weren't obstructed by piles of slush when I venture outside for a breath of fresh air or to go to class. Anyways, I can't really complain though because it is pretty, isn't it? I couldn't help staring out the window of my Student Council office on Friday and feeling peaceful. There is something beautiful about watching snowflakes fall and noiselessly hit the earth. The falling of snowflakes is probably the biggest and quietest party you will ever hear.

There's nothing worse than being drawn into the listless days of winter. The days lack much sunshine, the breeze sends chills through ones bones, and the skies roll over with clouds, sometimes emitting stray flakes of snow. I'm no stranger to the winter blues, but I find that wearing bright colours somehow helps to beat the dullness that seeps upon me throughout these cold months. That's why I absolutely love the colour of this skirt, and can't help but think of the lovely summer months when I could romp around the city under the sun.

Ps. Do not be fooled by the lack of snow. It was freezing taking these photos.

This skirt is a beautifully crocheted design, plus the colour makes me think of summer. This is one of my lucky finds at Anthropologie before Christmas. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, but it's such an elegant piece of clothing while still being fun and flirty (can I use that to describe an article of clothing). In these wintry days, it's always nice to wear something cheerful to get one out of the winter blues.

This outfit has the perfect 50's silhouette for me. The tight upper body and the full skirt, such fun. I also tucked in my cardigan and I rather like it. A completely different look than what I'm used to.

Ps. This skirt makes me think of salad because of the different colours of green mixed together.

I remember when I was around 12 years old and I used to wear this dress around the house. Back then I never even contemplated wearing it outside, it was simply the dress that I wore at home. Yet, now I wish I never had to take it off. I've always been more partial to longer length clothing, and this dress fulfils that very well. When I was younger this dress always reminded me of the Little House books that I used to practically devour. I was obsessed with reading about Laura Ingalls' life, and I wanted to be just like her. Therefore, whenever I wore this dress, I could imagine that I too was moving across the country in a buggy, and helping build a house from logs or sitting beside a wood burning fireplace sewing. Even now, when I wear this dress, I remember those childhood fantasies and they make my heart warm up because after all, the best clothes are the ones with the best memories.

DIY Tutorial: Bracelet

I think my last tutorial was for newspaper print nails, so it's about time I made a new one. Today's tutorial is adapted from here. I didn't have a lot of the same materials they used, and I didn't want to make a wrap bracelet, so I tweaked it more to my liking. This is a super easy tutorial (I made mine watching a movie), so I hope you guys have a chance to try it. I also hope that through this tutorial you can all see that it's really easy to just use what you have at home instead of going out to buy materials for DIYs.

Materials

- A ball chain, the kind that are sometimes attached to keychains. I used a plastic one, but metal is preferred.

- Some sort of cord. I used an elastic cord that I got from a candy box someone gifted to my parents years ago.

- A button. I just took one from my mom's button collection.

- Embroidery thread. So many colours!

- Scissors.

Step 1:

Take your cord and bend it in half, creating a loop. You want to make sure that the button you chose can get through this loop, but stay secure at the same time. You don't want to make the loop too loose, otherwise your bracelet won't stay on.

Step 2:Once you like the size of your loop, wind some embroidery thread below the loop. You can make a little knot if you want also, but make sure to leave a little piece loose. You'll hide it when you attach your ball chain.

Step 3:Place the chain right near the top of your bracelet, close to the loop, and start wrapping the embroidery thread around the empty spaces of your chain. I made three wraps for each space with my thread, but the amount of times you wrap will depend on the size of the spaces between the balls on your chain and the thickness of your thread.
Step 4:Keep wrapping, while checking to make sure it fits your wrist. Once you're happy with the length, trim the ball chain, wrap a bit more embroidery thread around the cord, string on your button, a few more wraps with the embroidery thread, then make a knot with the cord and trim.
Step 5: Enjoy!
Tips:Ideally, using a thicker cord is helpful, but if you want to save money, definitely look around your home to see what you already have. The beauty of a DIY is that it saves you money, therefore, try and use what you already have.

This is the last of my "photoshoot in the pretty bathroom because the light is amazing" photos. I'm wearing a vintage flapper dress that I thrifted over a month and a half ago. I was focusing on headshots for the photos, so you'll all have to wait to see the dress in it's full glory, but it is very pretty. What I love best about these photos is the red lipstick. I've recently gotten into wearing really bright lipsticks and it makes me so happy. I feel so powerful and feminine when I wear red lipstick. It's sort of like, give me my combat boots and a Chanel suit, and I'm ready to take over the world. Do any of you get that feeling when you wear bright lipsticks?

This Parasuco fur coat is such a darling little thing, although I felt like I was bursting at the seams when I wore it with this sweater. Not the best feeling. It also doesn't have enough clips so it gapes at parts which is disappointing since the cold wind seeps in. Nonetheless, it's rather fun to put it on once in a while, whilst running errands.

I found these cat ears while cleaning my house and couldn't help putting them on for the outfit photos.

winter thoughts

Spent a little while collecting some winter inspiration. We're having an incredibly mild winter so far in Toronto, but I've heard it's pretty mild even up North. While I'm glad that I don't have to break out the huge sweaters and thick boots, I think a little bit of light snow would be nice.

Anyways, these photos are all so lovely, and make me excited to gear up for winter. I wear most of my clothes throughout the whole year, apart from a few pieces here and there that I absolutely cannot wear each season. Therefore, I love the idea of little dresses that pass through each season, but worn with thick coats during the winter, and light cardigans during autumn and spring.

Even though I'm only 20, I'm quite the old soul. I like my vintage clothes, the black and white movies, hairstyles that make people cringe when they look at old photos, music free of auto-tune, the way people used to talk, well, the list could go on forever. I suppose I'm nostalgic for a past time, because as they say, people always think that the grass is greener on the other side. As it was put in one of my favourite films, Midnight in Paris:

"Nostalgia is denial - denial of the painful present... the name for this denial is golden age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one one's living in - it's a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present."

Even though I do think life is much more convenient in the 21st century, I can't help wondering what it would have been like to live in the 1900s. Yet, while I often find my head amidst the clouds, wondering about flappers or poodle skirts, I think I'll just stick to wearing vintage clothes, watching old movies and listening to old music.

This rambling post was a way for me to introduce my favourite vintage dress ever. I received this dress years ago, and I wear it far too often, which is why I hardly post outfits with the dress...I don't want to get repetitive. There's always such a nice feel to wearing something owned by someone else. There's always such a wonder as to whom the dress belonged to, and what sorts of adventures they got up to while wearing that article of clothing.

Today is my blog's third birthday. In human years that's not a lot, but in cyber-world years, my little blog has kicked itself off into its teen years. This past year had its little stops along the way as I tried to juggle school along with everything else, but I'm proud to say that I still managed to let out at least a few posts each month.

the eighth natural wonder of the world

Have you ever seen anything so beautiful that you felt that a photograph couldn't capture the beauty? I have. Yesterday. My parents and I went to Niagara Falls (on the American side) to see a landscape covered in ice. It was absolutely beautiful. Everything was frozen, from the grass, to the trees, to the little berries that poked out beneath sheaths of ice. The only sound to be heard was the rushing noise of the falls, as the mass amounts of water are too powerful to freeze. Imagine though, what it would look like to see the falls completely frozen.

Nonetheless, it's no wonder my parents call Niagara Falls the eighth wonder of the world.

I now would like to interrupt my usual outfit posts with some gorgeous photographs of a frozen landscape. The very last photo is of Niagara Falls at night as viewed from the Canadian side.

This outfit post is part of another post that will come tomorrow, which will be "where I wore my outfit (even though I never took my coat off)". It's going to be an awesome post, so make sure you check back tomorrow!

Anyways, this vest is an incredibly beautiful article of clothing, especially because my mom made it herself (same with the gloves). I love the pinecone design, particularly since we have so many bushes around us that have these prickly brown wonders of nature on them.

I bought the dress 2 years ago at an American Apparel rummage sale where I waited 9 hours in line with my friend. I can't say the 9 hours was worth it, but it was definitely an experience. Besides, this dress isn't that bad either. Definitely a lovely layering piece that will last me well into the winter.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and Boxing Day. I always enjoy the time between Christmas and New Year's Eve because my parents and I usually spend a lot of time together. Family time is always wonderful.

This blouse is the most adorable piece of clothing I currently own. I've wanted a printed blouse for a long time, but I always assumed it'd be horses. Yet, when I was faced with purchasing horses over mice, mice won heads down. It's such a pretty pink colour with orange mice all over. If you look closely, some mice are even in possession of pieces of cheese. How quirky! Plus, the collar isn't too close to my neck which I found is common with a lot of my blouses. I find it really hard to wear blouses buttoned up that lack much breathing room around the neck because I get a choking sensation, a reason I don't like necklaces that are too close to my neck.

Anyways, hope you're all enjoying your holiday breaks! I'm already beginning to think about going back to school and how I really should focus on trying to get ahead on some readings...but it can wait, aha.

Time is flying by much too fast for my liking. I can't believe that Christmas is this week. It's ridiculous. Two and a half more weeks and I'll be back at school. Much too soon for my liking. As much as I like to learn, I like having a nice long break to relax. Yet, this outfit reminds me of a school uniform, the kind I wish I had worn in high school. Polo shirts, badly fitted pants or awkwardly sewn kilts were all I had.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I've been wrapping gifts, sending out Christmas cards, organizing my holiday outfits, spending time with family and friends, and of course, taking advantage of the incredible sales (seriously. I don't shop much during the year, but the holiday season is the best time to buy something I've been lusting for all year).

DIY Embellished Tights: Rattlesnake

I probably should have gotten a more close-up shot of these tights, but once I actually wear them out I'll post a better photo. I DIY'd these tights this weekend. It took around 10 hours to complete since each bead is individually sewn onto the tights. It's supposed to be a rattlesnake, a bit more abstract than I wanted but I really like how it all turned out. I'm definitely going to be spicing up some other plain old tights this Christmas.

Went skating today for the first time this season. Such fun, but so cold; I still feel chilly.

I finally got around to purchasing some black over-the-knee socks. They are absolutely lovely and add something special to an outfit.

This green sweater is my favourite colour and puts me in such an incredible mood. I spent the day trying to finish up some Christmas shopping, although I wasn't that successful. Christmas shopping is hard. I think I'll just commit myself to making Christmas cards and put off the shopping till the last minute.

For the month of December I'm working at a gift wrapping place, and it's AWESOME. I love wrapping gifts and bringing holiday cheer to people. Unfortunately, the uniform is a light top and dark bottom, which is why my outfit post is black/white again. Fortunately, the place is rather lenient on the uniform, so I'll see what I can whip up for my next shift that proves to be a little bit more interesting.

This fur and suede coat is so incredible! I love it! It's incredibly big and comfy, and simply the perfect article of clothing to wear on a cold winter day. I ran a lots of errands today and it was perfect for the amount of time I spent in the cold.

I hope you're all having a wonderful December. I currently have "finish Christmas shopping" on my list.

Ps. The "not so" grinch blog title is because this coat reminds me of the Grinch but I personally am in full holiday cheer, hence the "not so" part.

There is definitely a chill in the air. Taking outfit photos in the cold is one of those tasks of blogging that I don't think non-bloggers understand. I think a lot of bloggers would agree with me, but taking outfit photos in natural light, outside is so much more flattering. The other day I was forced to take my outfit photos inside with flash, and I honestly don't feel like posting them because they just look wrong.
What are you opinions about natural light and outdoors vs. flash and inside?
I bundled up with this outfit. I love cardigans that are on the bigger side during the wintertime. It feels so nice and cozy to be all wrapped up and warm.

I loved the way the light played up the dust particles on the mirror. I had to get a picture.

Winter break is here and I'm still incredibly busy, although this time it is social engagements, so I can't really complain. Some of my friends are still writing exams.

The red shirt/black skirt outfit were worn on Wednesday when I attended a Christmas Tea at my university. It was such a lovely affair, and I had a chance to speak to some alumni.

The second set of photos are just a quick outfit I put together today to run errands. I love the vest I'm wearing. Suede and fringe: couldn't get better.

I'm so excited for the winter break. Tea drinking, skating, parties, time to watch movies and read books, yummy food, family time, etc. Oh Christmas time!

I got a haircut! So much shorter. I've never had hair this short, but I love it. I read a little while ago that a girl who cuts her hair is ready for change in her life. I'm not sure what kind of change I'm looking for, but this hair definitely makes me feel different. Plus, I'm excited to try out a bunch of new hair do's.

Anyways, the holiday season is in full swing, and all that detains me from fully taking part in the celebrations erupting around me, is one essay and two tests. This coming Tuesday I shall be free of all school obligations for over a month. So excited!

I'm currently seeking a few moments refuge from all my studying. I've been taking study breaks looking up 1920s fashions and I'm OBSESSED! I've had a thing for the twenties ever since 10th grade when my teacher made us learn the Charleston, and showed us images of flappers. The twenties are probably my favourite era for clothing. The beautiful dresses, the hair, the jewelry and of course the attitude that went along with everything. I think what makes the clothing so attracting is the history that goes along with it. This was the era when women finally began to break out of the standards that had been set up for them. I could give you all a history lesson, but I'll let you do the research yourselves. You can all just enjoy these photographs for now :)

Ps. In reference to my title, I bought a flapper dress at a vintage shop for an incredible price and I plan to wear it for Christmas, complete with the hair, the makeup and the attitude.

It's crunch time in school, hence my lack of posts. It's rather silly, especially since I have quite a few outfits lined up, but I haven't gotten to posting them. Anyways, I love this outfit. It really makes me think of Autumn; the orange skirt and the beautiful background of bright yellow leaves. The leaves have almost fallen to the ground now, I've started noticing the first snowflakes, and the cold wind is blowing in. Winter is coming, but so is my Christmas break, so I'm going to get back to my books!

I have a very small fall break from school (two days -- SO MUCH TIME...not), so while ploughing through an essay, I decided to let my mind rest by having a mini-photoshoot. I really love this plaid skirt, but it's just such an impractical article of clothing to wear everyday. It awkwardly opens up at the side and it drags on the ground because I'm much shorter than my mom to whom it belongs. Anyways, it is fun to wear for playing dress-up.

I went with a rather glam gone rocker look. My best friend said that the way I styled my hair makes it seem like one side is shaved off...which does look rather cool, aha.

I hope that no matter how busy you all are, you're taking some time to go outside and enjoy autumn!

When I was in high school I spent a great amount of time reading the Princess Diaries books. Besides Harry Potter, it was by-far my favourite book series. I really loved how Mia was so unconventional, and her constant talk about combat boots made me love her character even more. I remember in the first book she's sitting in the zoo at Central Park while it's getting dark, and she states that nobody would try messing with a girl in combat boots. I always found that rather funny, but I suppose all those years reading the books made me develop a desire for a pair of Dr. Martens. I ended up getting a pair of doc's for my birthday a month ago. I have to say that they are SO COMFORTABLE! These shoes are honestly the best thing I own. Not only are they comfy, but they reject dirt and water and are so easy to clean. Best gift ever. Honestly.

So I've been rather obsessed with bright lipstick colours the past few days. The brighter, the better. This red lipstick made me feel very Marilyn Monroe (blonde hair, pale skin, red lips), which is never a bad thing, that woman was insanely glamorous.

THE. BOOTS.

I got these boots c/o of Cougar Boots and they are absolutely incredible. I already own a pair of yellow Cougar Rain Boots, so when they offered me the chance to try these out I was ecstatic. While they are different than my other ones, I think these are better for adding a fashionable flair to an outfit, while still being practical, plus these are much easier to match (I love matching). They are insulated inside so your feet stay warm, but they DON'T SWEAT, which happens to another pair of rain boots that I have that are from a different company. Plus, they are incredibly comfy to walk in. I spent two whole days in these boots, and my feet were very happy. One day it didn't even rain like it was supposed to, but my feet were still happy. The design on the sides is also incredible.

Anyways, I definitely recommend these boots, and hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

I was getting dressed yesterday and found all these polaroids on my dresser. I'd placed some other items on top of them, so they lay there forgotten for quite some time. I felt rather nostalgic looking at them. t remember the day I took them. It was a hot summer, weekend day, back when I had absolutely nothing to do but walk around barefoot, so I took it upon myself to uncover the old family polaroid and snap away. I wasted a pack of 10 polaroids, 1 got ruined though (that's why there are only 9).

I love the way polaroids look, the grainy image that appears a bit blurry or overexposed. They capture moments and things in such raw terms, that it's sometimes a bit endearing to look at them. Such beauty!

On another note, these tights are fantastic! I like how gold they are and how they could transform this dress that I'm not particularly fond of, into something lovely.

I hope you enjoyed my summer nostalgia, although it didn't last long (HELLO AUTUMN)!

Oh autumn, the most wonderful time of the year. Even though I'm currently loaded down with piles of homework (I hardly leave my room) there's something so special about being able to dress up in pretty fall colours and head to class, stepping on crunchy leaves (I make an effort to step on them, the sound is so satisfying). I'm prone to wearing this military jacket during the autumn months, a lot. I remember when I first got this jacket 6 years ago. I wore it twice and then it sat in the back of my closet until 2 years ago when I had a reality check and realized that this is probably one of the most fantastic pieces I own. It goes with absolutely everything and I'd definitely say it's one of the items that I must have in my closet.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all my Canadian readers! Thanksgiving has to be my favourite holiday ever. While I love all holidays, there is something about Thanksgiving that no other holiday can emit. I like that there are no gifts, the weather is warm (it feels like summer today), the leaves are changing colours, pumpkins everywhere, even the food on the table is so pretty.

This outfit is a representation of thanksgiving for me. Just look at all the browns, reds and oranges! I found the vest in a little thrift shop downtown on a random Saturday morning. It's probably my favourite thrift store find: fringe and made in Paris, simply lovely.

I've mentioned this before, but sometimes the best clothes are the ones that remind you of someone or something near and dear to your heart. This sweater was knit by my mom back when she was pregnant with me, and hearing her talk about wearing it just makes me really happy. She clearly had some wonderful moments with it, and it makes me feel special when I wear it; the sweater almost becomes like a security blanket. Now that the weather is getting chilly, I'm incredibly excited that I get to wrap myself in this and other oversized sweaters.

Product Review Time

I was recently sent an Anastasia product; this bronzer, in Sun Kissed. At first I was rather hesitant about using a bronzer because I'd never been able to find one to fit my skin colour for while the pictures may not show it due to lighting, I am rather pale. Anyways, I was thrilled when I wore it for the first time and instead of turning into someone from Jersey Shore, it gave me the perfect amount of a shade; sun-kissed skin you might say. I've been using it every day for a week now and I've noticed that my skin appears better also...apparently that's one of the perks of this product (it's on their website it you click the link for the product). I personally would recommend this product, especially if you have fair skin like me.

I don't like apologizing for not posting because I think that your real life should always come first, and then your cyber life, but I really do love my blog, and when I neglect it, I feel sad.

Anyways, third year of university is much more hectic than I could have ever imagined, but at least I actually really like all my classes this year and I've achieved some pretty impressive roles in student life. The weather has also been rather decent, so I've been able to go barelegged for quite some time. I took these photos yesterday, and I love how they show our beautiful hydrangea bushes.

This dress is honestly my favourite random summer purchase. I remember the day I bought it: my friend and I were roaming stores and we happened to decide we couldn't go home till be bought something, so I randomly picked up this dress. The back caught my eye especially. It's such a plain dress, but then the back is like "bang!". Plus, the fact that it's a layering dress makes everything better (floral helps too).

This weekend is my birthday weekend, so I plan to try and balance my studies with some fun. Hope you all enjoy your weekends!

The other day my best friend sent me dozens of photographs, half b/w and half colour, and asked me to pick which ones I liked the best. Despite the fact that most of the photographs made more sense in colour, I immediately picked b/w. I've started to realize that I make most of my photographs black and white, and I don't even have a decent explanation, apart from "it looks better black and white". I think there's something so much more mysterious about a photograph that has lost its colour, so much more thought and imagination has to be put into the description.

I happened to choose an all black and white outfit the other day (well my jumper has blue stripes), and conveniently found that my photos didn't have to be colour to showcase the clothing.

My bag is my new prize possession. After working all summer I thought it only right to treat myself to something that I could use for a long time. This Burberry bag is such a classic, the perfect size, and simply the most amazing thing that I currently own. I swoon just looking at it.

Hello hello hello! I am back!

The past few of weeks have been incredibly busy and blogging was just not an option. I feel like neglecting to post was a horrible thing to do, but now that I'm back, I'm glad I had that nice hiatus.

Anyways. Another school year has started, and third year of university is looking be be completely different than I expected, in a good way though. I'm incredibly excited for all the new classes I have, all the new people I'll meet, and all the experiences and special moments I'll have.

This Levi's jacket has been my go-to article of clothing this week. I've worn it so many times already, but I can't help it. I wish I could own it in a bunch of other colours because of how handy it is. I especially like that the little pockets on the side fit my Blackberry in perfectly.

I'm off to go do some readings, buy some books, and enjoy the rest of my first week back at school. Hope everyone has a fantastic day!

I've been AWOL for quite a while, but I can honestly say that it has not been by choice. I'm on the Orientation Executive at my University and let's just say that it is A LOT of work. Between my full time summer job, Orientation planning and finding time to see friends not on Orientation Exec, it's hard to find time to sleep, let alone blog. I've worn some pretty wonderful outfits in the last while, and unfortunately have not photographed them. Once school starts I hope to enter a regular blogging period, but until then, I hope all my followers will remain patient as I juggle my last week of work, and two weeks of Orientation.
This dress used to be my aunt's but she didn't like it, so I kindly welcomed it into my closet. It bunches up awkwardly at the stomach which is rather a shame and I can see why my aunt did not want it anymore, but sometimes, I don't care about wearing flattering clothes.

I think the colours in this outfit describe my life very well at the moment; bright, loud, and busy! I thought the summer would mean more blog updates, but I think that the school year will prove to be better at my updating.

I got a of compliments on this shirt. It's so much fun, especially since the front reminds me of fish scales, but the back is just mesh. This whole outfit just makes me want to go and sing Grease songs and dance. There's something about wearing bright colours that just puts me in such a good mood!

I'm finally caught up with my backlogged posts. Yay!

I love this colour combination. Pink and coral really are lovely together. This Levi's jacket is my current favourite summer jacket to wear on cool days. Not only is it a beautiful colour, but the shorter length makes it perfect to wear with high waisted skirts and shorts.

The day I wore this outfit, it was incredibly humid, hence my wild hair. I'm really loving today's weather though. Nice and cool with the perfect breeze; it's really beginning to feel like the end of summer, and while some frown at that, I'm rather glad because I'm excited to start the new school year.

This outfit makes me think of that old saying, "every cloud has a silver lining." I remember first hearing it in some cheesy pre-teen book. At the time I never thought much about what it meant, or if it had any meaning at all, but now I think it's a saying that we should all apply to our lives. Life never goes as planned, and there will always be moments that stop us in our tracks, but we cannot lose the hope that there is something better not far along. Even during the most stormiest of days, there should still be hope that a ray of light will peak out.

Therefore, this dress with all it's frills, and my silver vest and socks make me feel like I'm a cloud, drifting along peacefully.

(When I was little I used to dream about being able to sit on a cloud and read books. I still think that if it was possible to do that, it would be really incredible. But unfortunately science puts a stopper to that dream.)

I think this skirt is the closest that I will ever come to wearing a tutu. I've never worn a real tutu, not for a dance show (I never did dance that required tutu's, only traditional Lithuanian clothes), not for halloween, and definitely not when I played dress-up with my friends. Therefore, when I bought this skirt last summer, it was an incredibly happy day. This skirt makes me want to prance and twirl around. It's definitely one of the "fun" articles of clothing in my closet.

This was my lazy day outfit. Those are always fun, aren't they?

I got into the whole scarf as headband craze and I think it's incredible. This gorgeous little scarf has never been the right size for me to wear as a scarf, but as a headband, it's perfect. Unfortunately you can't see the pretty little elephants embroidered into the silk.

Nothing much to say about this outfit, but I do have to say, WHERE HAS JULY GONE??? Seriously. I'm sitting here shocked because soon it's going to be August, and I'll need to start my back to school shopping. Oh wow!

mourning for childhood

This is my "day after watching the last Harry Potter movie mourning outfit". It was incredibly sad to watch the last instalment, and I sat there in the theatre crying till the last credit scrolled up. I know it is a tad overdramatic, although, those that know me well will agree that overdramatic is a great word to describe me. Nonetheless, growing up I found Harry Potter to be comforting, and many times, especially when the teachers told us all to go out into the school yard and mingle with our fellow classmates, Harry, Ron and Hermione were my very best friends. While I don't feel comfortable sharing personal stories to back up the importance of Harry Potter, I do have to say, that even though the last book came out quite a while ago, knowing that there was a new movie coming out all the time, let me hold onto that feeling of comfort. I know that I still have the books and the dvd's but it's not the same. I feel like Harry Potter represented my childhood, and now that it's over, it's as if I have to grow up. Time's are a' changin'.

These past few days have been heat wave central in Toronto, but pretty silk scarves have done the job of keeping hair off my face, and well, OK, the weather is so terrible that only an A/C can cool one down, but nonetheless, on any other day, they would have kept me cool.

These photos were taken on the last normal summer day because we have now entered scorching temperatures. Not only is it hot, it's humid, which in my opinion, is much worse than having plain hot weather. I ventured outside today, only to realize that sitting in a shaded area was a much better plan.

I bought myself a well-needed summer hat. This one is so pretty, and I'll probably be able to wear it well into September/October. If any of you are spending your days outside, I recommend a hat!!

My new haircut is prompting me to try out different clothing styles. While this outfit is my usual self, I really want to venture out to something new because what could be more fun than diversifying your style?

end of an era

What a busy week. I am now officially incredibly backlogged in posts, so I'll do the new ones first because I have a surprise!! Notice anything different about me? Yes, I cut my hair. It took me about two months to convince myself it was a good idea, but I couldn't be happier. I absolutely love my hair. It's such a refreshing change, especially when around me everyone is growing out their hair. I also think I look a tad older...well more my age than I did before. Haha.

This week also marks the end of Harry Potter. Obviously, Harry will live on in our hearts, but growing up, the books were a comfort/safety blanket for me, and the movies - a whole other experience. I find it ironic and sad that the year I turn twenty, Harry Potter retires. I noticed that one of my favourite bloggers drew the deathly hallows sign on her wrist, and of course, I had to follow her example. Need to mark this moment.

Ps. Got a new scent. So yummy, and the bottle is lovely, but I think that I prefer Lola, which I was using before.

So it is the end of an era. The end of my long hair, the end of Harry Potter, and in reality, my childhood. Time to grow up? Well...I can still wait a few years.

This dress was a gift, brought back to me from Lithuania. It's the most gorgeous little number, with a texture that is made to look like a bed of roses. It was the perfect dress to pair with a big brimmed hat this past Saturday, and frolic in a secret garden in Niagara Falls. I feel so Parisian in this dress, which only makes me love it more.

After taking hundreds of pictures in the garden, my parents and I visited some wineries where we had some yummy food and tasted interesting wines. We bought some Rose wine which has to be my absolute favourite. Not only is it a beautiful pink tone, but it's marvellously delicious.

Ps. I went to see Midnight in Paris today, and I have to say that it is an incredible movie. I'm putting it up there with An Education.

I'm a big fan of stripes. If I had to make a list of the 10 items that every girl should have in her closet, something striped, would be on the list. This skirt is one of those clothing pieces that I look forward to wearing every time that the weather gets warm.
The title of my post is inspired by the lipstick that I'm wearing. As I mentioned above, if there was a list of 10 items every girl should own, besides stripes, red lipstick would be on the list. Now, while there are so many amazing red shades and brands out there, Chanel has to be my favourite. This colour is called Gabrielle and it happens to be the exact same colour that was signature to Coco Chanel, so basically, this was the shade of red that she always wore. It's actually an incredibly hard colour to find. It took my mom and I a couple weeks last summer to track down the colour because it was sold out everywhere, and even now, we haven't been able to find it in stock. I guess everyone needs a little bit of some "signature Chanel red" in their beauty routine.

I've never fancied the summer months as much as the others, simply because my closet isn't prone to temperatures that sky rocket and make layering impossible. treasure hunt

One of my favourite things is to search through the closets in my house and unearth new treasures (in the form of clothes of course). It's always incredibly satisfying to find something that I had completely forgotten about or that I never knew existed. This skirt is one of those forgotten treasures. This used to belong to my very first Lithuanian Folk Dancing costume, therefore, unlike the new one I wore when I got older, the material of this skirt is much lighter. I love the rather ethnic effect it adds to my outfit. It's such a wonderful feeling to wear something everyday, that I used to only wear once or twice a year.

Silly me thought that the summer months would bring a break from the hectic school months. Unfortunately, my level of busyness has stayed pretty much the same. It feels like every day in the week is jam packed full of things to do. The older I get, the more I start to realize that summer becomes no longer the time for silly playfulness and days spent lying in the sun (not that I have actually spent weekdays doing that since I started having summer jobs 4 summers ago). But even a year back everything seemed different. The word summer used to represent vacation time, now it just means a season when the weather gets too hot and clothing layers seem to slide away. Summer is now just a period of time before yet another school year of sleepless nights, too much caffeine, and new experiences.

I suppose I've been feeling restless as I spend most of my free time watching Dawson's Creek, listening to the same couple songs on repeat, starting books and pushing them to the side after only reading a few pages, and trying to decide where I want to be after two years and never liking my choices.

As time slides by quicker than sand between my fingers I only hope that my restlessness settles soon so that I can stay on track with all my tasks.

Sometimes sticking to the primary colours is the best choice. Yellow and blue are two wonderful colour combinations. They make me think of the sun and the bright blue sky on summer's day. What could be more wonderful than that?

As per usual I find that mixing vintage items with current ones makes for a great outfit combination. Today at work I was talking to someone about how I prefer shopping at vintage/thrift stores because you get unique items that no one else has. Yet, I should note that I actually prefer mixing vintage and current. It gives more options for everyday outfits, and it helps add a little modernity to every day life even thought I'd rather be living in a different era.

I've always believed in trying to get the most for your money. Now, while I am rather stingy on spending money on many things, when it comes to clothing, I tend to shed more than a few dollars. Yet, I've always thought that you should take advantage of good deals, especially if you can track them down. This Levi's corduroy jacket was originally $90. I then saw it on sale for $40. After deciding it wasn't worth the money, I put it out of my head. But like they say, if it's meant to be, it'll be, so when I came back two days later, and it was only $20 I snatched it off the rack. So, I really did end up getting the most for my money because this little jacket is the most wonderful contribution to my wardrobe. The pockets even fit my blackberry and keys perfectly.

I remember when I used to wear this vintage dress as a little girl. It used to reach my ankles and it was only a dress-up thing. Now, I'm glad that I can finally parade around town in it. Growing up isn't that bad sometimes :).

It's already Wednesday and it just feels like the week started. Where is the time going???

Anyways, I could write a huge rant about time moving too fast but I won't bore you all. I got lazy and didn't take any outfit photos for the past two days, but this is what I wore Monday. Maxi skirts are the best because I love the silhouette they create AND you don't have to worry about holding down your skirt so the wind doesn't create a potentially embarrassing situation. I'm currently lusting after some of the maxi skirts at American Apparel. How I wish I owned at least one from there.

Hope you're all finding a way to beat the heat. Air conditioning at work is doing it for me.

I've always had a little thing for plaid, after all, you don't wear a uniform all throughout high school and not get a little attached to your plaid skirt. Anyways, for the longest time I only thought that plaid worked in the fall/winter, but this dress proves me wrong. Not only is it composed of my favourite colour (orange), it's also light, the perfect shape for a windy day (we've been having a lot of those), and it makes me think of the 50's. All I need is an up-do and a headband. Add some pumps, and I'm set to go back in time.

I think one my favourite things about painting my nails is picking out the colours with fun names. The nail polish in these photos is by O.P.I. and is called cajun shrimp. Nail painting is way more fun when the polish has an exciting colour name.

I bought these shoes a few days ago. The wedges I wore all last summer are starting to tear apart, so I figure these clog like esque heels would be an interesting substitute. They are actually incredibly comfortable and even though I spent the entire day in them my feet barely hurt.

Life is getting busy. I really thought things would slow down during the summer but it's probing to be quite as hectic. So much to do, and so little time to do it all.

I hope you're all having a fantastic start to the week. My start was rather iffy, but I'm optimistic that things will look up!

I love you dearly. We're really great pals. We hang out, we explore exciting places, we go shopping, dine out, but lately I've been feeling empty. I absolutely love maxi skirts. I wore them a lot last summer and I intend to do so this summer as well. They always make me feel so elegant and feminine and I tend to feel like I'm in a different time period.

I got a lot of looks today with this outfit, but as always, I feel that as long as you love what you wear, it really doesn't matter what other people think.

This blouse is my new favourite addition to my wardrobe, but it took about 4 years for it to arrive in my closet. My grandmother told me about it 4 years ago, but look as she might, she couldn't find it, but then recently she rediscovered it and passed it to my mom to pass on to me. The best part about this blouse is that my mother made it. It's really something special to be able to wear something, and when asked where it's from to say, "my mom made it". I wish I had more clothes made by my mom...maybe I should just ask her to make more.

Sorry for my lack of updates, but life has been busy/it has been raining non-stop for a week. This afternoon the sun finally came out, hooray, and I was able to take outfit photos (I really don't like taking my outfit photos inside).

Apart from this blouse being one of my favourite pieces to layer, it is also one of my favourite vintage pieces that I own, in general. There are just so many ways to wear it that I can never get bored of it. Plus, it's ideal for basically any weather and I've proven that by wearing it in the spring, summer, winter and fall. If only all my clothes were like that.

Alright, I bid you all a good night. I'm turning in early tonight, like I've been doing for the past week. I feel a bit like an old woman (haha).

One of my grandmother's had this ring made for me. I only received it on Sunday. Isn't it gorgeous? It's a completely original design, and it's made to look like a ruta branch. Therefore, if any of you were ever wondering about my name, ruta is actually a flower. Pronounced Rue-tah. Lots of people pronounce it Rue-dah, and it is my biggest pet peeve.

Due to blogger being crazy, I lost one of my posts, so I have to re-write it. :( Anyways, the other day I went to a High Park. If Toronto was New York, then High Park would be Central Park. The cherry blossoms are all out now, and it's such a gorgeous sight.

I absolutely love this skirt, and I was so glad that I got to wear my wedges with it. Hello summer! Although wedges are not the number one walking in a park shoe. The combo of wedges and socks and lots of walking created blisters on the soles of my feet. Ouch! But at least I made a good choice with the skirt because the intense wind did not cause any "wardrobe malfunctions".

I think this is one of my favourite outfits, probably because it's all pink. I thrifted this shirt on the weekend. I've been wanting a peter pan collared shirt for the longest time, and I felt like I uncovered a small treasure when I saw this on the clothing rack.

I fell in love with this skirt when I saw it at H&M. Not only is it pink, but it's TWO different types of pink, and it's just so much fun to wear. It's practically like two different outfits in one because depending on which side of me you're standing, you get a different perspective, and then even a different one when you face me.

Basically, this outfit made me incredibly happy when I wore it, but then again, what's not to love? It's all pink!

Oh the weather outside is delightful lalalala! Spring is officially here. After a couple weeks of rain, the flowers are blooming, the grass is green, and I'm crossing my fingers that I can officially start putting away all my coats in the next week or so.

I woke up nice and early yesterday, and dashed downtown for some vintage shopping (after all, Saturday's are the days when vintage shops get their new shipments). I found so many amazing items, but managed to narrow down my pile to two items. I shall wear them in the next few outfit posts. Anyways, this skirt seemed like a good idea at the time, but when I got downtown the wind picked up, which was rather annoying, but I guess that's why the fashion god invented bicycle shorts and decided to sell them at American Apparel.

Anyways, I'm off to enjoy the rest of Sunday. I start work tomorrow, and along with that I have some school obligations, studying for LSAT's, trying to get through my summer reading list (just started Les Miserables), hanging out with family and friends, and trying to find time to sleep. Summer, here we go!

For my dad's birthday last week, I blew up lots of balloons, but now a week and a half later I wasn't sure what to do with them. I hate popping balloons if I don't have to, so I decided to take some photos with them. Ironically, they all popped after I took the photos. I don't know how they popped...the wind? Haha, not sure.

Anyways, I bought these shorts this week. I told myself I wouldn't shop, but I saw these shorts, and I really wanted some high waisted shorts/something with an animal print, so these shorts were like getting two in one. They are super comfy, and they sort of look like a skirt from the front. I'm excited to wear them a lot this spring/summer.

We've been getting some warmer weather this week, but the rain keeps coming in, hopefully by next week it's all sun.

The other night I decided to play around with my camera and lights. It was rather fun, and I ended up taking some pretty cool looking head shots. My favourite has to be the first one though. I'm looking forward to doing something with intense eye makeup and feathers. Even though I put on makeup in these shots, I decided to turn them black and white or fade the colours, so you can't see the makeup.

Ps. Have any of you tried white eyeliner? I recently got some and have been wearing it a lot. It's really good if your eyes are on the smaller side like mine. It helps make them seem bigger. Plus it's a nice refresher from black eyeliner, and definitely more springy/summery.

Went downtown yesterday to see Water for Elephants, and then for a walk around my school campus. Campus is much more pleasant when there are very few people around, plus it makes taking photos much simpler. The movie was incredible though! I really recommend going to see it. All I want right now is to get an elephant, some shimmery outfits, and join the circus. Plus, I think I have developed an obsession with Reese Witherspoon's hair in the movie. Ahh, now to google and find out how to make my hair look like hers.

Bonjour readers! This is the first in many regular posts. I'm on summer vacation and I couldn't be happier. Right now I have a week before I start work, so, I'm lounging around, reading books, hanging out with friends, and of course, practising my ukulele. It is actually much harder than I originally thought, but it is really fun. Does anyone have any tips for playing?

This shirt is absolutely gorgeous and when I received it, it came with a full length skirt in the same pattern. I personally feel the pattern is a tad over whelming for a full length skirt, so I need to cut the skirt and make it a bit shorter.

Happy Easter to everyone! This is a rather more conservative outfit, but I was really glad to have to chance to wear this skirt. I got it as a gift about 2 years ago (I think), but it's so pretty and because it's a Diane von Furstenberg skirt, I've been terrified of ruining it. The first time I wore it was back on a dreary January day of this year when I attended a museum gala. The slush and salt on the streets were basically a death trap to this skirt, but luckily nothing bad happened, although it did take me much longer to get anywhere because I walked super slow as not to splash the skirt.

Anyways, I'm really glad I wore it today, and happily it matched all the green that's been popping up everywhere. Spring is a' bloomin'.

Ps. I don't know why I'm not smiling. I think I was so busy squinting because it was so bright out (even though there was no sun) that I forgot to smile. Oops!

This is a quick study break outfit post. Next time I blog, I shall be free from school. I cannot wait to get back to regular blogging, I've missed it so much over the past couple months. As much as I love university, I wish I could successfully mesh blogging with it, but somehow I haven't developed that routine yet. Hopefully next year I will.

I wore this outfit to church on the weekend. I don't go to church all that often, but it was Palm Sunday, so it was nice to break out this skirt that I bought for my summer job. I felt really feminine in this outfit, skirts this length always make me feel like that. My dad said I looked French, which I take as a very big compliment, although it only made me want to go to Paris and sit at a sidewalk cafe, sip an espresso and talk fashion, art, film and music. Unfortunately, after church I went back to studying.

Ps. Why, yes it is snowing in these pictures! That's April in Canada. Haha.

Pps. How many of you wish you were at Coachella? I watched it live via Youtube on my study breaks and it was INCREDIBLE!

I was recently contacted by some people involved in the creation of the IOU Project. This company basically grouped together to create a line of clothing that would be totally unique and handmade. This way you can trace each piece of clothing back to its production, right to the person who wove the fabric. It's a pretty incredible idea, and I sincerely hope that the company does well. I don't usually talk about particular companies, but this one really caught my eye, especially THIS VIDEO. It's incredible, and sends an amazing message. I really recommend watching it.

This is a small preview of some of their clothes! I'm really loving the peter pan collars, the colours, and the mix of prints in the shift dress (I feel like this needs to be added to my closet).

The company is basically creating an experiment to rethink how good are produced and sold in a way that would benefit everyone.Instead of having people pay more for clothing that is machine made that they buy at the store, their company will use the internet to connect with everyone. This way you pay a normal amount of money but get handmade clothing.
